Questions to Theistic Evolutionists.

Okay, so theistic evolution is the belief that God did a miracle and two to start creation, and then just left it alone to let it evolve. Believers in theistic evolution are usually agnostics, with a growing number in other religious sects, including Christianity.

You can answer if you are Christian or not, but, I have to ask... If you believe in theistic evolution, what exactly do you do with the creation account in Genesis? If you throw it out all together and/or just interpret it figuratively, then what do you do with all the other passages in the Bible that refer back to it as being a literal account of actually events (to include some things that Jesus said referring to the creation account)? I've got more questions, but they are more or less follow ups to responses.

G'day,
I keep an open mind as to how many years ago God created Man(kind).
Genesis 1;2 says
2 Now the earth was [a] formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.
[a] Or possibly became
Ok, what if there was a time before this time?

Well, I can sort of see where you are coming from, but so what if there was a time before creation? It has nothing to do with creation if it was before creation, right? Oh, as for that margin not that I guess you are quoting from your Bible as an alternate reading... I looked in my Bible, and I got a not for an alternate reading at that same spot, but mine says "Or a waste and emptiness"

Thanks for the comment though. lets keep this rolling.

G'day again, I quoted from the NIV Bible.
It just seems to me that there is a lot of evidence to suggest that the Earth is much older than 6,000 years, although the dating methods used by the scientist may be wrong.
What if there was a time before the creation account when God destroyed it all and started again?
I don't believe in evolution, but it is easy to see that things can adapt or mutate slightly but remain 'true to their kind'.

NIV huh.. not bad. I use an NASB, but thats a topic for another day.
I'm glad to see that you don't believe in evolution, especially on the grand darwinian scale. I also agree that yes, animals to adapt to their enviroment, its easy to see, and it accounts for the variety of species we have, for example all the different kinds of dogs that we have. Its observable, and its even recreated. An example of recreating it is in the college biology lab where people breed the fruit flies with different color eyes. But so far as mutations go...that is introducing or taking away info in the genes and DNA and every known instance of that happening has always had bad results.
Finally, so far as their being evidence of the Earth being older than 6,000 years...I don't doubt that there is evidence to lead people to that conclusion, because they have, but consider this. If I purchase a brand new dresser, but I want it to look old, there are methods of doing so to make it look like its 100 years old.
The problem with such arguments like me saying that God made Earth 6,0000 years ago and made it look a million years old and your argument of "What if there was a time before the creation account when God destroyed it all and started again?" the problem is that its all speculation. We have no proof anyway, not even in the Bible to support it. As a rule of thumb, I do like to steer away from the realm of speculation, because it can go on forever with the "what if's", with each "what if" contradicting another.
